Keyword Search Examples:

Keyword searches allow you to find words and phrases in author names, titles, subjects, notes, and other fields. Keyword searching permits boolean searching, adjacency and proximity searching, and several truncation options. Find more information about searching by clicking the help button.

Title Search Examples:

• strangers in the land
• strangers
• newsweek
• concerto for orchestra

Enter as much of the title as you know, starting with the first word. You may search for the title of any type of item in the catalog.

If you do not know how a title starts, but know some of the important words in the title, you may find it helpful to begin with a Keywords search.

Author Search Examples:

• camus, albert
• camus
• picasso, p
• american medical association
• general electric

For individual authors, artists, or composers, enter as much of the name as you know, last name first.

For names of organizations or corporations, enter as much of the name as you know, starting at the beginning.

Subject Heading Examples:

• lisp computer program language
• lisp
• london england
• london england history
• lincoln, abraham [Note: last name first]

Type as much or as little of the Library of Congress Subject Heading as you want, starting at the beginning. Punctuation is not necessary.

If you do not know a specific subject heading, you may find it helpful to begin with a Keywords search.
